摘要: This chapter considers the use of central thalamic deep brain stimulation (CT/DBS) to support arousal regulation mechanisms in minimally conscious state (MCS). CT/DBS for selected patients a MCS is first placed historical context prior efforts electrical treat unconscious clinical conditions coma and vegetative state. These previous studies proof concept result from single-subject study patient are reviewed against background new population data providing benchmarks natural history MCSs. The conceptual foundations then presented with consideration both circuit cellular underlying recovery consciousness identified empirical studies. Directions developing future generalizable criteria that focus on integrity necessary systems behavioral profiles may optimally response proposed.
