摘要: Thin solar sail membranes of very large span are being envisioned for near-term space missions. One major design issue that is inherent to these flexible structures the formation wrinkling patterns. Structural wrinkles may deteriorate a sail's performance and, in certain cases, structural integrity. In this paper, geometrically nonlinear, updated Lagrangian shell formulation employed using ABAQUS finite element code simulate wrinkled deformations thin-film membranes. The restrictive assumptions true membranes, i.e. Tension Field theory (TF), not invoked. Two effective modeling strategies introduced facilitate convergent solutions equilibrium states. Several numerical studies carried out, and results compared with recent experimental data. Good agreement observed between simulations
