摘要: Abstract Nest boxes for American Kestrels (Falco sparverius) may alleviate local nest site limitation, but there is concern that periodically opening or handling adults negatively affect nesting success. I monitored 536 kestrel breeding attempts (≥1 egg laid) in about 100 northwestern New Jersey, 1995–2012. To study return rates, opportunistically captured and marked them with U.S.G.S. leg bands patagial tags. examine possible effects of this disturbance, compared success nestling surviving to banding age) unmarked adults. Nesting was 67% 270 pairs, 76% 25 pairs only the male marked, 82% 206 female 91% 35 both marked. This significant difference likely reflects differences probability capture: successful last longer parents be more attentive. control these correlations, examined attempts...
