Exploring the Experiences of Newcomer Women with Insecure Housing in Montréal Canada

摘要: The objective of this study was to explore housing insecurity among women newcomers Montreal, Canada. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 26 newcomer who had experienced and five women’s shelter service providers. primary cause for inadequate income in the face rapidly rising costs, coupled unfamiliarity dominant culture local system. Specific events often served as tipping points immigrant women—incidents that forced into less secure housing. To avoid absolute homelessness, most stayed family, couch surfed, used or educational residences, shared a room an apartment, lived hotels, single rented rooms, transitional These arrangements problematic, crowded conditions, financial dependency, differing expectations interpersonal conflicts made stressful exploitive relationships, which sometimes ended abruptly. Only two interviewed described their current living situation stable. Based on findings study, we recommend training immigration providers, wrap-around services terms health, settlement programs take account broad range statuses caters specific needs migrant women.
