摘要: Abstract 1. Epidemic infectious diarrhea is a definite entity. 2. The disease extremely contagious. More than one-half of the infants exposed to infection contracted disease. 3. Acute enteritis and pneumonia were most common pathologic findings. 4. Bacteriologic studies showed that invading organism was hemolytic streptococcus. average incubation period for development symptoms varied from forty-eight ninety-six hours. 5. severity illustrated by rapid progress its concomitant very high mortality rate, namely, 82 per cent. 6. Only formula-fed babies died. Breast-fed either did not contract or if they able conquer infection. 7. Treatment unavailing except feeding mother's milk. 8. small nursery with air-conditioning unit permits growth minimum number air-borne bacteria. Air-conditioned cubicles in large nurseries accomplish same thing but add important factor isolation protection baby. Many air-conditioned units containing individual completely isolated formula kitchen are ideal set-up modern hospital nursery.
