摘要: [1] Thin ice thickness distributions estimated from advanced very high resolution radiometer (AVHRR) and RADARSAT Geophysical Processor System (RGPS) data sets were compared over the Beaufort Sea Canada Basin for period December 1996 to February 1997. The comparisons show a compelling agreement. High correlations found in cases where thin grew large, wide leads extending several hundred kilometers. At these large scales, estimates AVHRR images RGPS showed similar amounts of leads. However, when major surface deformation occurred on small scales (100 m 10 km), finer spatial m) enabled algorithm derive more than that AVHRR. Under such conditions correlation between two dropped, negative bias (about 1%) was observed This bias, mostly concentrated at end distribution, caused further deficit AVHRR-derived growth, roughly 0.2 cm/d. Although algorithms treat snowfall differently calculations, both snow assumptions appear reasonable. may underestimate production because 3-day sampling interval. With better understanding sources uncertainty improved satellite estimates, combination could offer wider coverage observations Arctic Basin.
