摘要: Lanzarote island, in the Canary archipelago, is main stronghold of Canarian subspecies African Houbara Bustard Chlamydotis undulata fuertaventurae. The size this population has been estimated several times recent decades, based on extrapolations bird densities obtained small sampling areas. Here we present results first complete census car transects combined with frequent and prolonged scanning stops, carried out during mating season, January-February 2018. Based a count 370 birds (161 males, 209 females) estimate total 440-452 Bustards island. For time, sex-ratio figure was for species: 1.41 females per male. annual production juveniles recorded three years varied between 5.83 19.57 hundred females. method used study proposed as an alternative to line previously, since it avoids possible methodological flaws that probably overestimate population. also enables sex ratio productivity be determined, established locations most displaying males. These are important parameters evaluating conservation status reproductive performance endangered Houbara.—Alonso, J.C., Palacin, C. Abril-Colon, I.
