摘要: The issue of environmental resistance polymer matrix composites (PMC) is addressed focusing on the effects low molecular weight (m.w.) compounds, including moisture. Sorption thermodynamics and mass transport m.w. compounds first reviewed with reference to neat matrices, illustrating Fickian anomalous diffusion describing role stresses that develop within in association transport. cases thermoplastic thermoset polymers, both glassy rubbery states, are treated under theoretical experimental viewpoints. effect penetrant sorption polymers then analyzed terms depression glass transition temperature. Theoretical approaches reviewed, aimed at quantitative prediction plasticization polymers. Subsequently, specific case PMCs addressed, highlighting geometric mechanical constraint reinforcing elements associated stress development. damage development, microcracking, debonding, macrocracking, which occur as a consequence ingress into composite, evidencing its contribution mechanism. Keywords: durability; environmental resistance; low penetrants; moisture; sorption thermodynamics; diffusion; mass transport; glass temperature
