A dendrochronological investigation of British stringed instruments of the violin family

摘要: Dendrochronological analysis has been undertaken on 47 stringed instruments of the violin family. The majority these are attributed to British makers 17th 19th centuries, whilst a small number from modern were included for comparative purposes. Tree-ring dates have produced 38% measured sequences by comparison with spruce and larch reference chronologies Alpine region. results this pilot study demonstrated viability project additional dating evidence many instruments. In addition, information concerning past working practices geographical source wood used also provided.
