摘要: Summary. During the winter in Crown Prince Gustav Channel Graham Land, ice tends to form at northerly end first, thus isolating pools of open water. The normally freeze some two months later; but 1955 this unusual pattern sea-ice formation cut off nearly 200 whales from sea. Originally there were 120 Lesser Rorquals Balaenoptera acutorostrata, sixty Killer Whales Orcinus orca and one Berardius arnuxi. activity prevented freezing completely, was marked crowding photographs taken. All many disappeared after four months. They may have died or travelled 65 kilometres under latter is more likely. However twenty stayed by for six latterly very little if any food can been available. The single species shot Argentine soldiers presumably killed. It suggested that initial concentration also seals due a large plankton.
