摘要: Marine protected areas (MPAs) have largely proven to be effective tools for conserving marine ecosystem, while socio-economic benefits generated by MPAs fisheries are still under debate. Many embed a no-take zone, aiming preserve natural populations and ecosystems, within buffer zone where potentially sustainable activities allowed. Small-scale (SSF) zones can highly beneficial promoting local socio-economies. However, guidelines successfully manage SSFs MPAs, ensuring both conservation goals, reaching win-win scenario, unavailable. From the peer-reviewed literature, grey-literature interviews, we assembled unique database of ecological, social economic attributes SSF in 25 Mediterranean MPAs. Using random forest with Boruta algorithm identified set determining successful management We show that fish stocks healthier, fishermen incomes higher acceptance practices is fostered if five present (i.e. high MPA enforcement, presence plan, engagement management, representative board, promotion fishing). These findings pivotal coastal communities so they achieve goals allowing profitable exploitation resources.
