摘要: Abstract Expansion of the biofuels industry has increased availability glycerol as an alternative feed for dairy cows. The objective this study was to determine effects on intake, milk production, rumen volatile fatty acids, and metabolic parameters in transition Multiparous Holstein cows were fed diets containing either high-moisture corn (n = 11) or (n = 12) from −28 +56 d relative calving. Glycerol included at 11.5 10.8% ration dry matter pre- postpartum diets, respectively. Prepartum intake not changed by feeding (14.9 vs. 14.6 kg/d, control glycerol) nor did differ (19.8 20.7 glycerol). Overall yield (35.8 37 composition, urea nitrogen, somatic cells, energy balance different with feeding. Blood glucose content decreased during prepartum period (59.1 53.4 mg/dL), β-hydroxybutyrate concentration (0.58 0.82 mmol/L, Concentrations blood nonesterified acids between treatment groups, no response metabolites observed. Total acid concentrations (mmol/L) treatments, but proportions propionate butyrate greater (22.7 28.6% propionate, glycerol; 15.3% butyrate, expense acetate (61.4 51.5%, These data indicate that is a suitable replacement grain
