Intercalary heterochromatin in Drosophila melanogaster polytene chromosomes and the problem of genetic silencing

摘要: The morphological characteristics of intercalary heterochromatin (IH) are compared with those other types silenced chromatin in the Drosophila melanogaster genome: pericentric (PH) and regions subject to position effect variegation (PEV). We conclude that IH polytene chromosomes binding sites silencing complexes such as PcG SuUR protein. Binding these proteins results appearance condensed late replication DNA, which turn may result DNA underreplication. PH well PEV have common appearance, localization specific proteins, replication, underreplication chromosomes, ectopic pairing.
