摘要: The field of eco‐evolutionary dynamics is developing rapidly, with a growing number well‐designed experiments quantifying the impact evolution on ecological processes and patterns, ranging from population demography to community composition ecosystem functioning. key challenge remains transfer insights these proof‐of‐principle natural settings, where multiple species interact are far more complex than those studied in most experiments. Here, we discuss potential pitfalls building framework that based data single isolation interspecific interactions, which can lead both under‐ overestimation processes. Underestimation evolution‐driven changes could occur single‐species approach when focal involved co‐evolutionary dynamics, whereas might due increased rates following release species. In order develop multi‐species perspective need for broad‐sense definition “eco‐evolutionary feedbacks” includes any reciprocal interaction between evolutionary processes, next narrow‐sense refers interactions directly feed back interactor evolves. We challenges opportunities using settings studies by gradually adding complexity: (a) interacting within guild, (b) food web (c) evolving metacommunities habitat patches landscape. A literature survey indicated only few microbial systems so developed truly their analysis mostly artificially constructed communities. Finally, provide road map methods study settings. Eco‐evolutionary involving necessarily demanding require intensive collaboration among research teams, but highly needed. plain language summary available this article.
