摘要: Abstract It is commonly claimed that ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) laminates offer high energy absorption during projectile impact with a cross-ply configuration. In this study, we explored alternative configurations the aim of achieving better ballistic resistance than architecture. The UHMWPE were fabricated from Endumax® SHIELD XF23 using hot press machine and material properties obtain unidirectional (UD) tape TA23 coupon specimens. A solid steel sphere was used as projectile. found thinner have higher specific limit suggesting it more effective to deploy multiple stacks thin laminated panels spaced apart bond all laminas form single thick laminate. Experiments confirmed while laminate systems always outperformed comprising same number laminas, also best not space apart. When simply stacked without spacing, multi-laminate arrangement significantly enhanced performance (about 10% increase in over panel). Adjacent system then rotated 45o relative each other bonded together blocks similarly oriented laminas. This ply block configuration had for but showed no advantage laminates.
