摘要: Further studies of the vortices in magnetospheric plasma flow with Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory/Max-Planck-Institut (LASL/MPI) fast experiment on Isee 1 and 2 have revealed that pattern vortical has a wavelength ∼20–40 RE moves tailward through magnetosphere at speeds several hundred kilometers per second. The tendency toward vorticity pervades total breadth sheet dawn-dusk meridian. sense rotation (as viewed from above ecliptic plane) is clockwise morningside counterclockwise eveningside. morning evening boundary layers reversed contiguous regions sheet. occurrence independent level geomagnetic activity but associated long-period pulsations. We believe source motion Kelvin-Helmholtz instability layer's inner surface (i.e., interface between layer) recently been proposed by Sonnerup (1980).
