摘要: Abstract Background Recent research has suggested that the prevalence of problematic substance use within Asperger syndrome population previously been underestimated. Furthermore, there is some indication might take place to manage traits syndrome; however this possibility yet be examined in detail. This study aimed address omission by exploring individuals' perceptions their relation diagnosis syndrome. Methods Eight participants were recruited from either a specialist service or drug and alcohol service. Participants interviewed regarding views which factors led development maintenance use, specifically experience having diagnosed with Thematic analysis was conducted on interview transcripts. Results Six main themes identified: self-medication; social facilitation; discrepancy between need support; defining use; peers, recreational substances. The two facilitation self-medication are focused paper as they most closely reflect more prominent bodies literature aim. Conclusions reported substances used act facilitator compensate for deficits increasing confidence settings participants' ease communicate. psychological distress associated depression, anxiety sleep difficulties. ends reflection method data collection, implications clinical practice suggestions future research.
