摘要: Verbal expressions of probability and uncertainty are two kinds: positive (‘probable’, ‘possible’) negative (‘not certain’, ‘doubtful’). Choice term has implications for predictions decisions. The present studies show that phrases rated to be more optimistic (when the target outcome is positive), correct, when actually occurs, even in cases where perceived convey same probabilities (Experiments 1 2). Selection phrase can determined by linguistic frame. Positive quantifiers (‘some’, ‘several’) support phrases, whereas all’) suggest (Experiment 3). frames induced numeric frequencies (e.g. number students admitted) imply rejected) call 4). It concluded choice verbal based not only on level probability, but also situational cues. Copyright © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
