A rapid community based health evaluation of pregnant women in low socioeconomic settlements of Karachi.

摘要: Three urban settlements served by the Aga Khan University were field settings where 163 pregnant women of low socioeconomic status studied to determine their level morbidity and nutritional status. A team 5 faculty members 20 nursing students registered all known be pregnant. 78 (50%) in third trimester 31% second 21% first pregnancies. 75% illiterate while 11% reported more than 6 years schooling. little over 50% 20-29 age. Mean age at birth was 19 years. 29% fever 14% diarrhea 33% respiratory infections previous week. had edema lower extremity 44% pallor conjunctiva. Only 54% attending prenatal care. About 16.2% weighed less 45 kg nearly 10% 145 cm tall. weight 54.8 (+or- 10.6) mean height 151.6 6.0) midarm circumference 25.6 32.2) cm. The uterine gestational ages 8 months 32.1 10.2) which below 10th percentile. weights who or averaged 52.9 compared with seen later 58.1 kg. This a population chronic illness mildly malnourished high rate infections. results demonstrate that field-based rapid evaluation can conducted easily ascertain health women.
