摘要: Like the poor, in world of crime fiction cops have always been with us. From beginning we find Sergeant Cuff, Inspector Bucket, M. Lecoq, to say nothing Poe's Prefect, or Doyle's Lestrade. In Golden Age they multiply - Inspectors Alleyn, Appleby, Grant, and Parker, name only a few. Across Atlantic, Ellery Queen's dad was cop, even Dashiell Hammett portrayed police officers sympathetic light his early stories. But nobody claims that presence officer makes fiction. Indeed, most detective written before 1950, play decidedly subordinate role as foils representatives state clearing boards at end. Even if main characters wear badges, fact are has no impact on their characterisation; act like any other amateur private detective, unfettered by bureaucracy law.
