摘要: Cnidarians comprise an old and diverse animal phylum, possess a wide variety of biologically active substances. Sea anemones contain diversity interesting compounds including some potent toxins. In the present work, sea Stichodactyla mertensii gigantea, collected from Mandapam coast, are characterized biomedically pharmacologically. The crude protein was obtained by using methanol aqueous extracts. respective contents S. gigantea were found to be 2.10 µg/mL 1.87 µg/mL. extracts yielded six nine bands SDS-PAGE on 12% gel. hemolytic assay, both exhibited effect chicken, goat, cow human erythrocytes ('A', 'B' 'O'). neurotoxic effects these determined in vivo shore crab Ocypode macrocera mortality observed. mouse bioassay for lethality performed male albino mice. extract showed higher (58 seconds at 1 mL-dose) than that (2 minutes 10 0.75 mL-dose). analgesic activity test also carried out mice Eddy's hot plate tail-flick methods. moderate hot-plate These characteristics emphasize need isolation molecular characterization new toxins gigantea.
