摘要: Two issues commonly arise for pathologists reporting adenomatous polyps of the colorectum. Particularly problematic within large sigmoid colonic adenomas is distinction between benign misplacement epithelium into submucosa and invasive malignancy. This requires careful morphologic evaluation key discriminatory features, assisted only rarely by application selected adjunctive immunohistochemistry. Following a diagnosis adenocarcinoma polypectomy or other local excision specimen, systematic assessment required features that may indicate risk residual and/or nodal neoplastic disease inform management decision-making regarding need further endoscopic surgical intervention.
