摘要: Visual acuity along the horizontal meridian in peripheral field of vision was determined at a photopic level two normal subjects. Two types sinusoidally modulated, monochromatic test patterns high contrast were used. One produced directly on retina by an interferometric technique. The other type imaged dioptric apparatus eye; resulting image suffered ordinary optical degradation. results from determinations represent maximal neural discrimination across visual field. Acuity decreases monotonically toward periphery, about 45 cycles per degree fovea, to 0.8 80 degrees eccentricity temporal decline is well described second-degree polynomial. for optics eye consistently lower than acuity. difference increases periphery. It attributable effects aberrations. discrepancy between and resolving power oblique incidence needs be taken into account whenever obtained with external, extra-axial stimuli are analyzed terms retinal architecture.
