Exchange coupling in magnetic heterostructures

摘要: Many structures consisting of magnetic layers separated by a nonmagnetic spacer layer show an oscillatory exchange coupling. This behavior is explained in terms simple model that shows the Fermi surface spacer-layer material responsible for The periods coupling are set extremal spanning vectors material. strength depends both on geometry and reflection amplitudes electrons scattering from interfaces between layers. To test this related models, associated Fermi-surface geometrical factors have been calculated large materials interface orientations. These models at least consistent with experimental data. All measured oscillation periods, but particularly transition metals there many more than seen experimentally.
