摘要: BACKGROUND: The sensitivity of conventional cytology for the detection malignant cells in pleural effusion is insufficient. GLUT1 and CAIX are hallmarks metabolic change cancer cells. The aim this study was to evaluate usefulness expression effusions. METHODS: A total 150 effusions were subjected immunocytochemical staining expression. According their cytological diagnosis etiology, these included 58 benign effusions, 38 probable 7 atypical 47 effusions,. RESULTS: None showed or expression, but significantly expressed with a positive result 74.5% 63.8% respectively, 100% specificity. When combination both markers evaluated, displayed higher diagnostic performance, ie, 76.6%, specificity 100%, accuracy 89.5%. A statistically significant correlation between observed. In addition, 18% cases resembling mesothelial cell hyperplasia 71.4% uncertain significance highlighted on or/and stains. CONCLUSIONS: Immunocytochemical may be complementary tool helpful distinguishing from reactive can give performance. Cancer (Cancer Cytopathol) 2011;. © 2011 American Society.
