Experimental and numerical study on the bearing capacity of encased stone columns

摘要: Stone columns have attracted considerable attention as a ground improvement techniques recently. Performance of stone columns, however, depends on confining pressure offered by the surrounding soils. In case very soft soils, lateral may be insufficient and this lead to column bulging failure. Encapsulating individual enhances resistance against additional pressure. study, influences length encasement type aggregate materials bearing capacity single in both dry sand clay bed were investigated. The results indicated clear encasing half-length column. numerical study also showed effect reinforcement stiffness reduces with increase cohesion clay. Parametric that is insignificant for high values cohesion.
