摘要: The Great Oxidation Event (GOE) represents the first sustained appearance of free oxygen in Earth's atmosphere. This fundamental event history has been dated to approximately 2450 million years ago (Ma), that is, hundreds millions after photosynthetic cyanobacteria fossil record. A variety mechanisms have suggested explain this time lag between onset photosynthesis and atmospheric oxygenation, including orogenesis, changes areal extent distribution continental shelves, secular release hydrogen space, methanogenic bacterial stress. Recently, it proposed subaerial volcanism during early Proterozoic could provided a large pulse sulphate ancient oceans, reduction which liberated drive GOE. Here we show Matachewan Large Igneous Province (LIP), is partially preserved Scandinavia North America, both exactly coincident with GOE, sufficient magnitude be source release. We therefore propose associated emplacement LIP was principal driver oxygenation our planet.
