Experimental evidence of modal properties using directional couplers in silicon-on-insulator

摘要: The single-mode optical rib waveguide is a fundamental building block for many, more complex circuits. Recent modelling has been provided in the literature that investigated polarisation and modal properties of small, deeplyetched waveguides SOI. In this paper we present work utilised total 160 directional couplers fabricated from various dimensions, to investigate validity published modelling. particular 5 designs have used fabricate differing lengths, map out variation coupling power within couplers. For singlemode device, characteristic sinusoidal expected, but sinusoid will be corrupted presence higher order modes, each which different length as compared mode. We observed experimental results are consistent with designs, hence evidence higher-order mode behaviour
