Interprofessional enhanced skills training in periodontology: a qualitative study of one London pilot.

摘要: Health Education England (HEE) London developed an innovative 2-year pilot educational and training initiative for enhancing skills in periodontology dentists dental hygienists/therapists 2011. This study explores the perceptions experiences of those involved initiating, designing, delivering participating this interprofessional approach to training. Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with a purposive sample key stakeholders including course participants (dentists hygienists and/or therapists), education commissioners, providers towards end programme. Interviews, based on topic guide informed by health services policy literature, audio-recorded transcribed verbatim. Data analysed framework methodology, using QSR NVivo 9 software manage data. Twenty-two people interviewed. Although certain challenges identified teaching, bringing together different professional backgrounds level skills, all overwhelmingly positive relating concept. There was evidence ‘creative learning’, which led ‘enhancing team working’, ‘enabling role recognition’ ‘equipping delivery new models care’. Recommendations emerged regard future wider policy, systems that will enable enhanced courses apply these clinical practice. The represents important creative innovation build capacity within oral workforce. has provided useful insight into benefits tensions model from perspectives groups suggests its application other areas dentistry.
