Reported Changes in Sexual Behavior in Response to AIDS in the United States

摘要: Abstract Background . The AIDS epidemic has profoundly affected public health policy and everyday choices of individuals. Understanding the self-protective strategies adopted by general population is crucial to designing appropriate more effective primary prevention strategies. Methods A probability sample U.S. adult in 1992, National Health Social Life Survey ( n = 3,159), addressed detailed aspects sexual behavior. How respondents changed their behavior due was recorded verbatim categorized for analysis. Results Twenty-nine percent adults reported some change, primarily, reducing numbers partners (12%), using condoms frequently (9%), selecting carefully (7%), changing attitude toward sex (4%), abstinence (3%). Individuals most at risk show greatest propensity change although actual risk-reduction meanings assigned those vary considerably. Strategies are not all compatible with each other nor equally likely be individuals different lifestyles. Conclusions Self-protective avoid widespread, but efforts should targeted particular circumstances propensities individual.
