摘要: Beta-oxidation of fatty acids and detoxification reactive oxygen species are generally accepted as being fundamental functions peroxisomes. Additionally, these pathways might have been the driving force favoring selection this compartment during eukaryotic evolution. Here we performed phylogenetic analyses enzymes involved in beta-oxidation Bacteria, Eukaryota, Archaea. These imply an alpha-proteobacterial origin for three out four enzymes. By integrating enzymes' history into contrasting models on cells, conclude that peroxisomes most likely evolved non-symbiotically subsequent to acquisition mitochondria archaeal host cell.
