摘要: BACKGROUND: It is now recognized that many minor surgical procedures can be appropriately performed in a general practitioner setting; the government has introduced list of operations, for which it prepared to pay limited fee, and time see whether this service expanded. AIM: To demonstrate group practitioners (GPs) with particular interest surgery offer an expanded both their own patients also neighbouring colleagues, fundholding or non-fundholding, within health authority area. METHOD: The West Kent Health Authority awarded contract 500 operations practice five GPs. At end first year, 511 had been performed, results implications are discussed. RESULTS: target was met passed year. Thirty-five GPs referred directly. All were offered initial appointment one week operation month, unless they expressed preference alternative date. Several unsuspected malignancies discovered-no complications recorded, patients' referring doctors' satisfaction high scheme judged have success eyes. CONCLUSION: provide efficient, cost-effective service, popular colleagues. Whether way we wish organize future needs further discussion.
