Association between maternal satisfaction with breastfeeding and postpartum depression symptoms

摘要: Background Due to the multiple health benefits of breastfeeding, it is essential identify factors that may negatively interfere with this healthy practice. Among such are postpartum depression (PPD) and maternal satisfaction breastfeeding. The objective study was evaluate association between breastfeeding symptoms PPD in first month after childbirth. Methods This cross-sectional nested a cohort conducted Porto Alegre, Brazil, 287 puerperal women selected at two maternity hospitals, one public private. Women were interviewed their homes week infant completed 30 days life. A structured questionnaire applied, as well instruments (Maternal Breastfeeding Evaluation Scale) screen for (Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale). higher (outcome) negative screening test assessed using Poisson regression robust variance, adjusting specific covariables. Adjusted prevalence ratios (aPR) respective 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) estimated. Results The increased (defined scores above median) 47% among who screened when compared those positive result (aPR 1.47; 95%CI 1.01–2.16). This adjusted age skin color, cohabitation infant’s father, planned pregnancy, type delivery, exclusive occurrence problems. Conclusions findings showed an absence symptoms, reinforcing importance caring mental pregnant paying attention
