Locally stable diamond colloidal crystal formed in a cholesteric liquid crystal.

摘要: We use a Landau de Gennes free energy approach to model diamond colloidal crystal immersed in cholesteric liquid crystal. The pitch our is chosen order give rise the most energetically favourable colloid-defect structure, commensurate with lattice. This structure corresponds defect lines travelling along symmetry axes By adding noise phase we are able measure phonon spectrum of crystal, which find be consistent locally stable configuration. Therefore, although it may not correspond global minimum once formed lattice should against thermal fluctuations.
