摘要: Stem bark extracts of Boerhavia erecta L. (erect spiderling) and Amaranthus spinosus (spiny amaranth), two wild growing weed plants used in traditional African medicine, were characterized with respect to their phenolic profile including the betalains. While main betalains A. identified as amaranthine isoamaranthine, major betacyanins B. betanin, isobetanin together neobetanin. The latter showed higher betalain concentrations amounting 186 mg/100 g, while former contained 24 mg 100 g ground plant material. Extracts found contain hydroxycinnamates, quercetin kaempferol glycosides, whereas catechins, procyanidins quercetin, isorhamnetin glycosides detected erecta. amounts these compounds ranged from 305 for 329
