A novel ZrB2–VB2–ZrC composite fabricated by reactive spark plasma sintering

摘要: Abstract The development of a novel ZrB2–VB2–ZrC composite using ZrB2, vanadium and graphite nano-flake powders via reactive spark plasma sintering was studied. in-situ formation VB2 ZrC enhance the densification, sinterability mechanical properties. A relative density 99.17% achieved for ZrB2–20 vol% VB2–20 vol% after RSPS at 1900 °C 7 min under 40 MPa. hardness fracture toughness are improved by 50% 40%, respectively, in comparison with monolithic ZrB2 ceramic. Thermodynamic calculations microstructural analyzes revealed that formed phases derived from reaction between transient VC phase matrix.
