Alveolar echinococcosis of the liver: a single center experience.

摘要: Introduction In humans, alveolar echinococcosis (AE) of the liver is caused by canine tapeworm called Echinococcus multilocularis. The disease most prevalent in northern hemisphere and eastern part Turkey. Objectives aim study was to review natural history AE its clinical radiological features. Patients methods retrospective involved 23 patients (10 men, 13 women), aged 34-75 years with who had been referred our clinic past 4 years. Only pathologically proven were included study. sociodemographic, clinical, features also evaluated. Results main laboratory characteristics mild eosinophilic leukocytosis hypergammaglobulinemia, elevated C-reactive protein levels, near-normal transaminases, increased levels cholestatic enzymes immunoglobulin E. Eight (35%) hepatitis B e antigen-negative infection. Budd-Chiari syndrome identified 3 (13%). Eighty-three percent a seropositive test result for AE, approximately one-third distant metastasis. Surgical treatment administered patients. Four died due complications during follow-up. Conclusions have numerous advanced at time diagnosis. picture comprises number hepatic extrahepatic disturbances related both destructive mass effects tapeworm.
