Neural correlations, population coding and computation

摘要: How the brain encodes information in population activity, and how it combines manipulates that activity as carries out computations, are questions lie at heart of systems neuroscience. During past decade, with advent multi-electrode recording improved theoretical models, these have begun to yield answers. However, a complete understanding neuronal variability, and, particular, affects codes, is missing. This because variability typically correlated, although exact effects correlations not known, known they can be large. Here, we review studies address interaction between noise discuss their implications for coding general.
