摘要: Abstract Background Today most patients with congenital heart disease survive childhood to be cared for by adult cardiologists. The number of physicians that should trained manage these lesions is unknown because we do not know the patients. Methods To answer this question, expected numbers infants each major type defect born in 5-year period since 1940 were estimated from birth rates and incidence. or without treatment data on natural history results treatment. Finally, categorized as simple, moderate, complex, based amount expertise management needed optimal patient care. Results From 2002, about 1 million simple lesions, half moderate complex United States. If all treated, there would 750,000 survivors 400,000 180,000 lesions; addition, 3,000,000 subjects alive bicuspid aortic valves. Without treatment, survival group 400,000, 220,000, 30,000, respectively. actual surviving will between 2 sets estimates. Conclusions Survival disease, treated untreated, produce large adults it likely many more cardiologists need lesions.
