Spectroscopic Observations of the Rotation of Saturn

摘要: Our present information concerning the rotation of Saturn has been derived from observations few spots that have seen at rare intervals on planet's disk. One these appearing in equatorial region 1876 was followed for several weeks by Asaph Hall,1 its discoverer, who obtained a rotational period 10 hours 14.4 minutes, while such observed A. Stanley Williams2 years 1891 to 1894 yielded periods between 12.6 minutes and 14.3 minutes. The bright spot 1933, which number observers seemed conform Hall's within error observation.8 Only two occasions planetary details this character higher latitudes studied given nearly 4 per cent longer than found regions near equator.
