摘要: Background Diagnosis and management of depression occurs frequently in the primary care setting. Current diagnostic treatment practices across clinical populations focus on eliminating signs symptoms depression. However, there is debate that some interventions may pathologize normal, adaptive responses to stressors. Analytical rumination (AR) an example response characterized by enhanced cognitive function help individual on, analyze, solve problems. To date, research AR has been hampered lack theoretically-derived psychometrically sound instruments. This study developed tested a clinically meaningful measure AR. Methods Using expert panels extensive literature review, we conceptual framework for 22 candidate items. Items were field 579 young adults; 140 whom completed items at second time point. We used Rasch measurement methods construct test item set; traditional psychometric analyses compare existing rating scales. Results Data high quality ( 0.81; evidence divergent validity). Evidence misfit 2 suggested 20-item scale with 4-point categories best captured concept AR, fitting model (χ2 = 95.26; df 76, p 0.07), reliability (rp 0.86), ordered structure, no bias (gender, age, time). Conclusion Our provides Rumination Questionnaire (ARQ) can be quantify adults who experience The ARQ robust useful tool assessment improvement Future work needed establish validity this people major
