摘要: Conservation of marine species typically focuses on monitoring and mitigating demonstrated stressors where possible. Evidence is accumulating that some will be negatively affected in the future by climate change reduction existing may not sufficient to offset these impacts. Recent work suggests shy albatross (Thalassarche cauta) adversely projected changes environmental conditions under plausible scenarios. Furthermore, modelling shows elimination principal present-day threat albatrosses, fisheries bycatch, an achievable critical priority, reverse population declines due impacts, which cannot directly eliminated. Here, a case study presented range intervention options, preparation for predicted are identified evaluated. A suite 24 adaptation options first assessed using semi-quantitative cost–benefit–risk tool, leading relative ranking actions. Of increasing chick survival via disease prevalence through control vectors, was selected field trials. Avian insecticide applied chicks’ mid-way their development effect subsequent Survival treated chicks after six weeks significantly higher (92.7%) than those areas (82.1%). This approach enhance populations exist we argue testing interventions prior serious impacts can formalise institutional processes allow refinement actions offer chance iconic species.
