摘要: When wave propagation through a stratified atmosphere is formulated in operator theoretic terms, it becomes evident that the problem does not follow guide of usual examples mathematical physics. Nevertheless, such formulation useful to reveal why many procedures are valid and where they may be deficient. In particular, even if refractivity profile merely required belong general class perhaps badly discontinuous functions, always has well–behaved solution subjected modal analysis. On other hand, resulting mode series converges neither rapidly nor uniformly, and, as asymptotic behavior modes shows, one advised use only with caution.
