摘要: Despite remarkable advances in vitreoretinal surgery, proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) remains a common cause of severe visual loss or blindness. One the critical reasons for PVR-induced blindness is tractional retinal detachment due to formation contractile preretinal fibrous membranes. This membrane characterized by proliferation and migration cells excessive synthesis deposition extracellular matrix proteins. Herein we present disease pathways PVR, reviewing role both systemic intraocular as well molecular mediators. A chronological sequence events leading PVR also hypothesized. Better understanding pathogenesis needed order improve management. Efforts should be oriented towards greater cooperation between basic researchers clinicians, aimed at matching different clinical scenarios with biological markers disease.
