摘要: Abstract Results of several different series open hole tension tests on quasi-isotropic IM7/8552 carbon fibre/epoxy laminates with the same stacking sequence but ply block thicknesses and numbers sublaminates are summarised. Specimens single 0.125 mm thick plies failed by fibre fracture, strength decreasing increasing size. Ones 0.5 mm blocks all delaminated, failure stress diameter, opposite to usual size effect. 0.25 mm showed intermediate response, small ones failing delamination, large failure, constant over a range sizes from 1.6 12.7 mm diameter. The crucial role delamination in mechanism is examined order explain these results show why conventional corrections may not always be applicable.
