On a Metastable Energy State of the Negative Helium Ion

摘要: By applying the selection rules of auto-ionization to (1s2s2p)4P state negative helium ion, it is shown that only 4P5/2 energy level not liable auto-ionization. Provided lowest triplet atom has positive electron affinity, this ionic metastable in same sense as state. A thorough calculation quartet ion been carried through, and a affinity at least 0.075 eV found, enough explain experimental observation mass spectrograph reported by Hiby. The unexplained line 310 061 cm-1 (322.5 A) observed vacuum ultra-violet Kruger may then probably correspond transition (2s2p2) 4P-(1s2s2p) 4P He-, yielding an error 0.083 calculations.
