摘要: Professional and occupational societies rely on volunteers for leadership, expertise, member recruitment, fundraising, legislative activity, many other activities. Yet, volunteerism in the professions has received very little analytic attention. This study uses a large, international dataset produced by American Society of Association Executives to examine patterns volunteer activity 23 professional associations societies. A comparative analysis allows us test widespread theories factors that predict particular context life, where motivations may vary. Our findings suggest some mirror what we can expect non-professional (i.e., church or community volunteering), while are distinct. have relevance understanding professional’s demographic characteristics voluntary preferences context-specific must be accounted recruitment efforts.
