Interpreting the habitats of Annex I: past, present and future

摘要: Abstract Annex I of the EU Habitats directive lists habitats which member states must protect by designation and management protected areas known as Special Areas Conservation. This list has grown from 170 in 1992 to 231 2007 due enlargement 12 27 members. An Interpretation Manual describes but there is often variation between how they interpret habitat types, sometimes regions same country. Several examples such differences are presented efforts date ensure similar interpretations described. Finally some possible future developments discussed.
