摘要: OBJECTIVE To compare pre- and post-operative shoulder active range of motion (AROM) values from female breast cancer survivors to population norm for AROM; AROM differences post-surgery between African American White (BCA). STUDY DESIGN This pilot study used a convenience sample longitudinal design measuring participants 2 times (T0 = baseline, after biopsy but within weeks before BCA surgery; T1 2nd postoperative week). BACKGROUND The U.S. has the largest survivor in history yet mortality burden remains highest among AA survivors. AAs may also have greater physical functional side effects compared whites general population. METHODS AND MEASURES data were collected (n 33; nAA 9, nW 24) included on AROM, medical chart review co-morbid conditions, self-reported demographics history. We t-tests means norms. then our across timepoints pre-surgery; post-surgery) using independent samples repeated measures analysis variance (p < .05) sub-samples means. RESULTS Americans had significantly less abduction (at T0) flexion T1) than whites. However, 100% reduced all movements at T0 (prior surgery biopsy) when CONCLUSIONS significant reduction points possible unmet need early therapy intervention. Further research randomized controlled trial is recommended.
