摘要: The study of the phenomenon intermediate valence in rare earth compounds and alloys has become a very active field research, many unusual properties associated with valency have been investigated (l). magnetic are perhaps most interesting since they appear at present to be difficult explain (2). behavior SmS under pressure is typical. At 6.5 k bar, undergoes large isostructual volume decrease, increase electrical conductivity, change color from black gold. Various studies shown that this transition involves electronic configuration Sm ion 4f6 mixture 4f5 configurations. However, susceptibility collapsed phase shows neither low temperature Curie law divergence nor an ordered phase. Instead, saturates constant value as goes zero. This not easy reconcile fact ground state. lowest level 6H5 /2 which degeneracy only partially lifted by crystal give Γ7 doublet Γ8 quartet where lower energy.
